Culture and etiquette for women on Boracay

Solo women travellers can feel at ease
Women in the Philippines are more independent and modern nowadays, unlike decades ago when they were very demure and conservative. And since Boracay is a tourist destination, you may find all types of Filipino women trying to earn a living by working various jobs, from hotel receptionists to waitresses or bar girls.
You may also meet Filipino women in Boracay who are single mothers, or breadwinners of their families; however, the majority of the women you’ll meet here will be well educated, cosmopolitan, and independent who will be holiday like yourself.
Filipinos are fond of foreigners and make a point of being hospitable. Most can speak English (certainly the younger generations), and some are also able to speak fluently in other languages, too, such as Chinese, Japanese, and French. This is especially so for staff in top-end hotels and resorts.
Attire is very Western in Boracay. You can go topless and nobody will think anything of it. Filipinas vacationing in Boracay typically wear the usual beach attire, such as bikinis or hot pants. Most of them wear sheer cover-ups for lunching out and shopping around the island. Feel free to wear whatever you like, as there’s no such thing as fashion faux pas in this laid-back island.
The main reason Boracay is so enjoyed by women is because of the weather and beaches. There are also female water sports enthusiasts visiting Boracay for surfing, diving and sailing, plus there are also those who visit the island to party.
Boracay for women with children
Boracay is a great destination for families with family-friendly hotels and beaches on the island, where you can enjoy a plethora of activities with your kids. Apart from letting them frolic on the beach, you can sign up your children for diving or parasailing lessons. If you have curious children, you can take them to the Bat Cave or let them pick up shells with you on Puka Beach.
In some instances, you may also find native children loitering around parts of the beach and in commercialised areas. The Boracay Special Tourism Police Office advises tourists to be wary of these children and never trust them near your personal belongings.

Go-go girls
As you explore Boracay, hang around at the beach, or lounge in your hotel, it is common to see a number of Filipino women partnered with foreign men. Some of them may have met their partners legitimately, although a lot of them will have just met up in a bar on White Beach. If you are uncomfortable about this set up, it'd probably be best for you to spend time in more family-friendly areas. If you are single and ready to mingle, though, you may find it interesting to meet good-looking Filipino men on the beach or at the many bars. that said, it's virtually unnoticeable on Boracay, which the authorities have been vigilante in controlling, unlike a couple of other places in the Philippines.
